Hawick Trades: for the record
Since 1946 Hawick Trades RFC have won innumerable titles and have unfailingly been in the forefront of Scottish Junior Rugby.

This site has a comprehensive photo record of the club and many personal reminiscences.  The photo archive of the history section is indexed by decade, and at the centre of our site is a brilliant essay on the club by Jock Imrie.

Add in records of the club's officials over the years, and much more, and you have Hawick Trades - the definitive version.

Tom Reid,
President 1949-84

  • An updated photo of Trades Cornets is now on the site.   The previous photo was taken in 2004, and this is a 2007 update.

  • Jock Imrie was club Secretary until season 1968-69, and for 28 years he kept meticulous weekly records of each match played by the Trades.  A superb effort indeed - and his records can now be examined online in our new Jock Imrie records section.

Tours in the UK and overseas

Cyprus 1997The Trades were the first Hawick club - junior or otherwise - to undertake an overseas tour, when in 1975 a party of 18 players and 12 officials / supporters travelled to Italy to take part in a tournament.

A report from this tour, and from others besides, in all of which the team upheld its reputation on and off the pitch.

Great stories from Britain and Europe in tours at home and abroad

Teams over the years
Langholm Sevens 97-98The earliest photo we have is from 1939-40, and there are many more where that came from.

We have a large selection of Trades personalities through the last 60 years in the photo archives section.

The Glynneath Connection

The site would not be complete without a section on our long association with the Welsh club Glynneath, against whom we have have been playing challenge matches for 50 years now.

So much good rugby, and so many friendships made.   The Welsh fixture has always been the highlight of our season, so please read more about our unique Glynneath Connection
